These Roots Run Deep

But first, as Lonny would say, "a little history lesson"...

Davis Guest Home Inc. has operated Residential Care Facilities since 1962, when Walter and Mary Davis opened their own home to several men coinciding with the close of Modesto State Hospital, where Mary had served for years as a CNA. Lonny was about 14 years old at the time. Two rooms were built adjacent to the family home, and suddenly, four guests joined the dinner table. Their home sat in the middle of large orange fields which Walter tended full-time. They saved every penny (true dust-bowlers), and eventually purchased the house and some of the surrounding land. The Hatch facility started there, and over the years, saw Walter and Mary expand the home four different times, beginning with a few rooms that would eventually grow into the entire Back House, and then finally building a mirrored adjacent facility, the Front House, which attached to all-cedar construction home built in the early 1900's that was built by a woman that came to California in a covered wagon (seriously).

Walter and Mary were kind and simple country folks that were defined by their dedication and work ethic. With a growing business to manage, they reached out to their son Lonny Davis who was in Texas for help in the early '80s. Lonny joined them (only on a temporary basis) but soon took the helm, and in the proceeding years he expanded the two-facility footprint into eight. In the '90s, with Lonny's leadership, Davis Guest Home trail-blazed the first Augmented Care program which expanded offerings to partner counties in need of a level of care that would house folks that didn't quite fit into either acute treatment programs or mom-and-pop board and care facilities. The new proposition was a hit, and these facilities with well-trained attentive staff and quality psychiatric care soon became the heart of the Davis Guest Home operation, across facilities.

Years later during Covid, Enhanced Care facilities were pioneered which allowed for placement of folks with tougher histories and increasingly severe mental health challenges. Starting with a request from a single county, demand quickly grew, and the proposition expanded to each of our four smallest facilities. Each of these facilities are staffed with seasoned experts that are able to provide high levels of support and guidance to their resident populations, often housing folks that would otherwise be maintainable in locked hospital-like alternatives.

In 2020, Lonny reached out to his son Zak Davis who was in Texas working and raising his family, and invited him to come and join the family business that he had grown up in. Zak has a background in finance, analytics and marketing services, and has brought his experience in technology to the company to help breathe new life into Davis Guest Home's operations. More importantly though, Zak was raised around the business, helping out where possible as a teenager and then later working his way through the organization. As a result, he shares the unique Davis Guest Home caregiver vision and understands the philosophical pinnings that set Davis Guest Home apart.

Davis Guest Home has long enjoyed a reputation of providing quality care and services for individuals who require a level of care not generally provided by residential care homes.
